The shower curb performs an important functional role in your shower by keeping the water in. It is also the number one failure point if waterproofing isn't done correctly. If you are tiling the base of your shower, the curb can be made from concrete, wood with cement board, or a prefabricated foam block. We used an XPS or Expanded Polystyrene Foam curb because it is not susceptible to water damage and is relatively quick to install. There are several brands such as Schluter Kerdi, Wedi, Vevor, Noble, and others.

After the installation, be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for waterproofing and take extra care with all of the seams. We used RedGard for the entire shower project. Afterwards, use tile and grout to match the rest of the shower and install a shower door.
