It took all the strength and might they had. Waipahu rallied from a 35-13 deficit for a 49-41 win over Kapaa in the opening round of the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Football State Championships. OIA Division I champion Waipahu relied on playmaker Tama Uiliata, who moved from wide receiver to quarterback late in the first half.
Uiliata passed for 106 yards, rushed for 96 and had 31 receiving yards, combining for three touchdowns. The senior also returned two punts for 50 yards and one kickoff for 21 yards.
