The layup is one of the offensive fundamentals in basketball. A layup is a high-percentage shot that requires regular work in practice.
To perform the layup, protect the ball with one side of your body as you jump toward the basket. Extend your arm as you release the ball. You can also use the power layup. This version requires you to jump up with two feet instead of one. The power layup can often come after a pass or rebound.
“Practice regular and power layups often,” says former collegiate basketball player Jason Ronai. “As you improve and become more consistent, then begin to work on more challenging and creative layups.”
