Chartley Castle, Staffordshire is one of several castles built by Ranulph de Blondeville, Earl of Chester who also built Bolingbroke castle and Beeston castle. The ruins are visible from the A518 just outside of Stowe-by-Chartley but it is hard to park and there appears to be no access. The site is famous for being one of the places where Mary, Queen of Scots was imprisoned before her trial and execution.
