When I was 18 years old I joined the army as a paratrooper. This is how we polished boots. Seventeen years later my boots are just fine. They are not crumbling and cracking in the slightest. You could use a different method: clean, condition, cream polish, buff, and wax polish. However, that's a different video - "How to polish boots in 2 hours". Here's how to get strait to the point with a flame and shoe polish.

Do this in a ventilated area and don't burn yourself! The more time you take the better your shine will look. This one boot took me about 5 minutes. Before you call it done, scrape off any shoe polish that ended up on the rubber trim of the sole.
