The landslide of cases of sexual assault and harassment from men against women is awful. But, other than refraining from that completely inexcusable behavior ourselves, what can dudes realistically do to help (especially when it feels so easy to do/say something that might make the situation worse without meaning to)?

Here are 3 things that have helped me feel like I'm able to take an active role in being an ally:
1. Understand all forms of sexual violence -- big and small -- are on a spectrum, and all point directly to a common core of objectification of women.
2. Embrace silence and ignorance. While this contentious issue may make us feel like we need to appear knowledgeable and "in the know," saying "I don't understand" is the first step to learning more and getting beyond our limited experiences as men. (Noting of course, that the burden of educating men lies on us as men. Which is good news -- there's a ton of info out their on the interwebs!)
3. Compliment women ... on anything other than appearance. This helps us, as men, to take a stand against misogyny and objectification by training our minds (and those listening) to celebrate the abilities, intellect, and power of the amazing women around us (rather than physical appearance).
