South Asia is home to approximately 25 million diesel and electric pumps, contributing to around 7% of global carbon emissions. To achieve the crucial target of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, it's essential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across all sectors, especially agriculture.

The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) is leading efforts in Bangladesh, India, Nepal, and Pakistan to support national commitments in reducing agricultural emissions. Through the Solar Irrigation for Agricultural Resilience project, supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, IWMI is promoting solar-powered irrigation. By working closely with farmers and other stakeholders, IWMI aims to create a sustainable and climate-resilient future for agriculture.
