With the recent 35’ of retrack and minimal friction, the Forest Rumbler is zipping along at a faster-than-ever 15 mph. The 7-foot end-spike was designed to slow the ride down, but the cart was traveling too fast, causing it to violently slam into the end-track tire. The ride was deemed as unsafe by the designer, and was closed to riders for two weeks after the track work was complete.

A simple brake was assembled by placing a slightly elevated 1x6 (6 feet long) in the center of the rails on the spike. The undercarriage of the vehicle slides along the elevated board, slowing it down just enough to allow it to nudge (rather than smite) the end tire.

Initially, the brake was placed near the top of the spike, causing the cart to get stuck at the top. After moving the brake down about two feet, the result was ideal.
