Description
This presentation explores the impact of generative AI on instructional design (ID), based on recent research conducted by Dr. Laura McNeill at the University of Alabama. The study investigates how instructional designers are currently using AI tools, the benefits and challenges they've encountered, and emerging best practices in the field. Through a mixed-methods approach involving a survey of 144 participants and a focus group, the research reveals high adoption rates of AI tools among IDs, with ChatGPT being the most popular. The presentation highlights AI's role in improving efficiency, idea generation, and content development, while also addressing challenges such as output accuracy and ethical concerns. It concludes by discussing the evolving role of instructional designers and the importance of human-AI collaboration in the field.
