Rhaeadr claims Overall Champion and Solwaybank secures top price at 89th Scottish Area Show & Sale.

The Gimmers
5 gimmers sold saw a 100% clearance and averaged £1732.50
A fewer than normal show of females this year saw 5 shearlings and 4 ewe lambs on offer and a change to the previous year’s sale these were sold in the morning rather than the Thursday evening to make way for the presentation, dinner and social evening which was a resounding success.

Shearling Gimmers were first away and topping the prices was Finn Christie, Maidenstone with Lot number 4 WHU:23:01625 a single ET lamb sired by Pyeston Prince, she was a full ET sister to the second prize in the Gimmers at this year’s Royal Highland show. Her full ET brother was sold to the Whitestone flock in 2023 and is maternal sister to the Royal Highland show breed Champion in 2023. N McDonald taking the sheep after some fierce bidding back to Bowmore on the Isle of Islay.

Second up was consigned by Graeme Christie, Balquain (father to Finn) who’s Gimmer was sired by Muirton Man of the Moment reached 2000gns at the fall of the hammer. A single ET PDN:23:01481 out of a home bred dam PDN:21:01184 the Dam’s maternal sister was sold to the South of Ireland privately who then went on to breed the Blessington Sale Champion in 2021. This one took the fancy of N Hannaway to become resident on the banks of Loch Lomond at Balloch
Samuel Milne (Grampian) consigned three Gimmers who averaged 683gns in a reluctant sale just to reduce numbers all sired by Bridgeview Belvenie.


Ram lambs
Ram lamb averages were £2634.11 with an 87.8% clearance rate.

40,000gns was the top price ram lamb at the Scottish area branch show and sale at Lanark Auction Market through Lawrie and Symington.
Auctioneer Archie Hamilton in action in the rostrum in front of a packed ring one saw the pop price achieved for Iain and Judith Barbour’s (Solwaybank) lot no 53 and was purchased by TR and C Boden (Sportsmans).
A single ET lamb FHT:24:2508 sold for 40,000gns sired by Limestone Online and stood out as one of the family’s favourite lambs of the Solwaybank 2024 crop. It came from the same family as the 5000gns Solwaybank Saphire 2, who bred the 44000gns Ballintone Show stopper.
