FESTIVAL INFO: The Black Gold Festival is an annual 3 day event that occurs in Hazard, Kentucky beginning on the third Thursday of September. It's the Queen City's largest event of the year that draws in crowds from neighboring counties and even other states. Estimates say it's the largest one in Southeast Kentucky and one of the biggest in all of the Bluegrass state.

Featuring live music from the Bill & Betty Morton Amphitheater stage next to City Hall with a lineup that includes: gospel, rock, country, contemporary christian, folk, bluegrass and blues (and more). Nearly every musical taste can usually be satisfied by the lineup.

Plus fresh made food from a host of vendors, usually placed up and down both sides of Main Street, offer a wide variety that is sure to cater to even the pickiest of eaters. It's also expected that you'll expand your waistline a little but that will be balanced out by the lightening of your wallet.

There's also the arts & crafts tent located in Triangle Park that features vendors from all over Southeast Kentucky offering apparel, soaps, makeup, home decor and practically everything else you can think of.

Though the most popular part of the event is the carnival in the parking lot of the Perry Co. Health Department. Operated by Casey's Rides the kiddie approved thrills change from year to year but have always been a huge hit with Festival goers who are of the teen and preteen age group.
