Trailer welding repairs are one of the more common jobs coming through my workshops, especially the boat trailers.

Regular 'dipping' in the sea during launch and recovery allows the salt water to enter all the chassis rails & box section cross members. Once in it begins to eat away at the structure & no amount of 'washing off' will remove the corrosive liquid from the enclosed sections.

Eventually, the rust breaks through to the surface though owners often think its just surface rust & a lick of paint will fix it. Unfortunately more often than not its terminal & the only option is to cut out the damaged sections and re-fabricate completely new parts of the chassis & weld them in.

In this video I'm doing exactly that, both cross members are turned to rust & have to be replaced. Follow me through the various steps to accomplish this task, with processes including cutting out of the old members, marking out of the new box section, welding up and fitting to the trailer too...

This video is another great example of how having some basic engineering skills, grinding, welding etc... allows you to do stuff like this and earn or save a few bucks depending on who's mower it is I suppose!

Any questions or comments just ask away & I'll do my best to help.
