How to solder an ipad cable- DIY style. It's really just soldering the connections as shown in the diagram. This simple electronics project uses 1/8" cable ends, 1/4" cable ends and a repurposed TRRS 1/8" phone headset cable.
This is a pretty effective solution for adding a guitar or microphone your iOS device. However, given the cost of the newest interfaces(such as iRig clones) it may actually be cheaper to buy one premade!
