In today’s narrated adventure, we travel to Goshen, Virginia; to document the world famous Norfolk & Western 611. Operating along the Buckingham Branch’s main route through the Shenandoah Valley, this line sees regular service by Amtrak’s Cardinal service as well as some run-through CSX freights, making this the closest thing to a mainline steam excursion one can see on the east coast.

Seen in this videos are chases of the 9am and 2:30pm departures from Goshen, as well as many spots on the line between there and Staunton, Virginia. While Amtrak wasn’t running on the date of our visit, we did manage to catch a CSX run through grain train taking the BB mainline. Lots of radio communications between crew members and dispatch can be heard throughout the video as well.

Narration is less frequent in this video compared to others, because I wanted to give the mighty 611 time to make her voice heard. The crew put on quite a show, with plenty of great whistle quilling and some AMAZING stack talk while working their way up the 1.5% North Mountain grade.
