See how to wire a bilge pump in this video from Boats.net.

Your bilge pump is an important part of your boat, so it’s essential that it works properly. The wiring on the bilge pump needs to be done correctly not only so it works, but that it’s safe. Down in the bottom of your boat below the floor, water, gasoline, and all kinds of other stuff can accumulate. The wiring must be done properly to avoid a short or spark that can create a fire hazard.

In this video from boats.net, John will walk you through a couple of different wiring setups, but not before he walks you through how to make proper electrical connections on your boat.

In the first setup, we’ll use a pump with a separate switch that allows you to toggle between continuous run, switch-controlled run, and off.

Then, we’ll do the same but with a bilge pump with an integrated switch.

Finally, we’ll look at one other kind of setup that does not use any kind of float switch and instead periodically runs the pump and reads the amperage to determine whether there’s resistance from pumping water moving through. If there’s not any resistance, the pump knows there’s no water to move and it turns off.
