Back in the day, the Simon Bolivar Zoo suffered from neglect and despair and one couldn't stroll around the grounds without getting somewhat depressed watching the wildlife that once roamed free- confined to fairly dismal quarters. Now, the zoo isn't quite so bad, although a few cages could use some upgrades and renovations.

If you want to see all the Costa Rica wildlife in one place then you could spend an hour or two here, that said, we would recommend heading out to the forests and jungles and attempting to spot animals in their natural habitats.
