Mr. George Kubai is the Managing Director of the Agricultural Finance Corporation (AFC). He is a seasoned executive leader with over 15 years of experience in business management, supply planning, credit control, depot management, performance management and relationship management.

For the last two years under his stewardship, the institution has been recognized for various achievements. This includes a number of awards at the Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) National Shows across the country and the prestigious Public Sector Award at the Digital Transformation Awards (Dx100) in 2022.

This year, AFC has been participating in various Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Shows across the country. The theme of this year’s ASK Show is “Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth.”

Speaking at the ASK Nakuru Show earlier this month, Mr. Kubai spoke at length about the institution’s mandate, participation at the Show and laid-out strategies.

“The ASK Show is an integral calendar event for AFC. This is a moment where we get to interact with our stakeholders and showcase our various products as we participate throughout the different Shows across the country,” he said.

When asked about AFC’s relation and interpretation of this year’s theme, Mr. Kubai noted, “The theme of this year’s Show strongly resonates with the aspirations of our institution in terms of mitigating the impact of climate change. For AFC, this speaks to what we want to do in our institution since it directly impacts the activities and businesses of our stakeholders.”

This year, AFC bagged three awards at the ASK Nakuru Show. These are, first position in the “Best Financial Institution other than Commercial Banks” category, second position overall for “Best Stand that Interprets the Current Show theme” of “Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth”, and third position in the “Best Stand Exhibiting Agricultural and/or Earth-moving Equipment” category.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), efficient machinery can help in increasing food productivity by 30% by increasing the area under cultivation in lesser amounts of time and effort.

Additionally, the correct machinery can allow crops to be grown and harvested with minimum soil disturbance, resulting in less environmental damage such as soil degradation.

“Machinery is one of AFC’s strategies to achieve food security as we empower farmers to acquire the right machinery to assist in increased food production,” concluded Mr. Kubai.

The official opening ceremony for the ASK Nakuru Show was presided over by various dignitaries including the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development Mithika Linturi, and the Governor of Nakuru County, Susan Kihika, who is also the Patron of the Show in Nakuru.
