In this Colorado Outdoors magazine Video-Supplement, Colorado Parks and Wildlife Senior Aquatic Biologist Doug Krieger discusses a research study detailing a population of greenback cutthroat trout inhabiting Bear Creek, a tiny tibutary of the Arkansas River drainage located west of Colorado Springs. According to a study published Sept. 24, 2012 by the University of Colorado, the cutthroat trout in Bear Creek are the only remaining fish (genetically pure greenback cutthroat) that share the genetic fingerprint with specimens collected in the late 1800s from across the South Platte Basin. To learn more about Colorado's greenback cutthroat trout, see "Piecing Together the Past" in the Sept/Oct Issue of Colorado Outdoors magazine, now available by calling: 1-800-417-8986.
