Caste System in India | ಜಾತಿಗಳ ಗೋಡೆಗಳಿಲ್ಲದ ಸಮಾಜ ಕಟ್ಟಬೇಕು ಅನ್ನುವುದು ನಮ್ಮ ಘೋಷಣೆ; ಆದರೆ ನಮಗೆ ಜಾತಿ ರಾಜಕಾರಣ ಬೇಕು, ಜಾತಿಯ ಐಡೆಂಟಿಟಿ ಬೇಕು, ಜಾತಿ ಗಣತಿ ಬೇಕು!

ಇದೇ ನಮ್ಮ ಕಾಲದ ವೈರುಧ್ಯ, ನಮ್ಮ ದೇಶದ ಹಣೆಬರಹ.

ಮೀಸಲಾತಿ ಬೇಡವಾ ಅಂದರೆ, ಮೀಸಲಾತಿಯ ಕರಾರುವಾಕ್ಕು ಜಾರಿಗೆ ಜಾತಿಗಣತಿ ಬೇಡವಾ ಅಂದರೆ, ರಾಜಕೀಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಸರಿಯಾದ ಜಾತಿ ಪ್ರಾತಿನಿಧ್ಯ ಬೇಡವಾ ಅಂದರೆ, ಎಲ್ಲಕ್ಕೂ ಇರುವ ಒಂದೇ ಉತ್ತರ: ಬೇಕು, ಸದ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಬೇಕು.

ಆದರೆ ಕೇವಲ ಜಾತಿಗಣತಿಯಿಂದ ಕೇವಲ ಮೀಸಲಾತಿಯಿಂದ ಕೇವಲ ಅಂಕೆಸಂಖ್ಯೆಗಳ ರಾಜಕಾರಣದಿಂದ ಶೋಷಿತ ವರ್ಗಗಳನ್ನು ಮೇಲೆತ್ತಿ ಸಮಸಮಾಜ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ ಮಾಡುವುದು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ ಅನ್ನುವುದು ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ಸಿದ್ಧವಾಗಿ ಹೋಗಿರುವ ಸತ್ಯ. ಅದನ್ನು ಸಾಧ್ಯ ಮಾಡುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಬೇರೇನೋ ಬೇಕು.

ಆದರೆ, ಲಾಭ-ನಷ್ಟದ ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಲೆಕ್ಕಾಚಾರಗಳ ನಡುವೆ ಸಮಯವೂ ಸದಿಚ್ಛೆಯೂ ದುಬಾರಿ!

The stated goal of our nation is to create a ‘secular’, casteless society; but all our public welfare policies are based on caste calculations!

This is the unavoidable paradox that India has been living with, thanks to the deep-rooted caste system that has created layers and layers of disparities and has necessitated caste-based policies in order to create a level-playing field.

Having said that, the question that we need to confront is: Have our measures over decades to bridge the chasm between castes yoelded the desired results?

The answer is, yes and no!
