Flower Hacks to make your life easier - or ways to make things work when you are in a pinch!

Last week we asked for your flower hacks - so here are ours and yours! They are not in any particular order, so enjoy! You never know when you might need them!

* use wire to insert in broken stems of double chrysanths when making based funeral work - then use these in out of the way areas or under the placements.
* use coloured packaging and ribbon to enforce a colour choice in a design.
* add flower food to water before soaking floral foam ( maybe more a tip but still good )
* only soak the foam you need - you can cut to shape and only soak the bit needed, the bit left is easier to store!
* spray colour - ideal to add a blue flower for example or take thistles from full to beautiful blue!
* use pot plants for cutting! Ran out of foliage - pot plant! Need little orchids for a corsage - pot plant!
*Use silk flowers in designs - maybe for a funeral or wedding, it’s not ideal but probably will save the day if you are short.
* use supermarket flowers or plants! They sell so cheap they act as an emergency wholesaler now.
* revive flowers with a lay down in a cold bath of water. Just cut the stems, and submerge!
* can’t source herb plants? Maybe you can get the cut version - so add to foam with moss to recreate the plant for that event.
* quiet in the shop, holding low fresh stock levels - get faux stems out and add them to the display. It adds volume and impact and they don’t die! You might sell a few as well!
And your hacks -
* use foraged foliage to save costs, add volume and concentrate spend on the flowers. Try berry ivy, ivy trails, conifer and pine. Just source responsibly.
* alum powder. It’s cheap, buy online and ideal to dip hydrangeas into for longer stem life.
* use matt white spray on Dusty Millar to hide any damage.
* anenomes - so popular just now but not easy to have consistent. Make your own with a single lisianthus and insert a sprayed black button chrysanth head - just use a dab of cold glue!
