Here's the small history, and description of every Goldsrc game to ever come out. There's quite a few.

Goldsrc was the first engine that Valve made, but tweaking heavily the Quake engine, and that produced amazing results. Goldsrc would also run several other games, most of which are still played today. The engine has an extensive modding community with many mods being made for every game.
