During II World War 2.8 million forced laborers from Poland worked in the Third Reich, who in practice were slaves. For disobedience, the Germans could punish them with flogging. One of the worst offenses was "copulation with a German woman or man, or immoral approach to them". Poles and Polish women were threatened with the death penalty, carried out without a trial.
