Ende April 2010 - sechs Wochen vor dem Start der Fußball-WM in Südafrika - war Gerd Müller Ehrengast einer Sportlergala im Ingolstädter Festsaal. Der ''Bomber der Nation'' brach im Interview mit dem DONAUKURIER eine Lanze für den suspendierten Nationalstürmer Kevin Kuranyi und sagte seinem Namenskollegen Thomas Müller eine große Karriere voraus. Der damals 20-Jährige wurde wenige Wochen später Torschützenkönig der WM 2010 mit fünf Treffern.

Was zu diesem Zeitpunkt noch niemand wusste: Es war eines der letzten Interviews des medienscheuen Rekordtorjägers, damals 64 Jahre alt. Im Oktober 2015 gab der FC Bayern die Alzheimer-Erkrankung seines langjährigen Stürmers bekannt. Am 15. August 2021 starb Müller im Alter von 75 Jahren.

In an interview with DONAUKURIER, the ''Bomber of the Nation'' took up the cudgels for suspended national striker Kevin Kuranyi and predicted a great career for his namesake Thomas Müller. A few weeks later, the then 20-year-old became the top scorer at the 2010 World Cup with five goals.

What nobody knew at that time: It was one of the last interviews of the media-shy record goal scorer, then 64 years old. In October 2015, FC Bayern announced that its long-time striker had Alzheimer's disease. Müller died on 15 August 2021 at the age of 75.
