A pregnant woman beaten to the point of miscarriage, 13 women sentenced to up to two-and-a-half years in prison simply for protesting and 800,000 people evicted from their homes. These are some examples of human right abuses in light of freeing up land for Chinese investors. With China now being the biggest foreign investor in the country amidst talks between President Xi Jinping and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, foreign companies are coveting land owned by local villagers.
The Insight team speaks to Sun Sophat of Pu Thoeang Village and Bov Sophea of Boeung Kak 13, both of whom are still fighting for rightful ownership of their land.
