In August 2024, Shopify's checkout.liquid will be deprecated for Information, Shipping, and Payment checkout steps. As a result, if you have to implement Google Ads conversion tracking, you need to switch to using the Customer Events within Shopify Settings section instead. This section provides a currently sandboxed environment for all types of tracking across all platforms - be it Google, Facebook, Tiktok or Google Tag Manager. The sandboxing also comes with some disadvantages/challenges, like non-availability of preview/debug mode. I have discussed how to set up Google Ads conversion tracking using this new Customer Events section in Shopify along with the challenges and possible ways to mitigate them.
