Fishing a new venue can be a daunting prospect, but it can be exciting at the same time. It’s very easy to get carried away and feel like you have to change your entire approach in order to succeed on somewhere new. But… why change something that doesn’t need to be fixed!

In this instalment of TA|Insights, we tasked Lewis Read to fish a venue he had never seen before; the historical St Ives complex in Cambridgeshire. The fishery became etched in carp fishing history for producing a monstrous mirror during the early nineties known as The Fat Lady, a carp that eventually broke the 60lb barrier before passing in 2011.

With his sights firmly set on fishing The Lagoon, Lewis wastes no time at all and is soon on the hunt for his first Cambridgeshire carp. Of course, our intrepid piscatory used what he knows best; D rigs and Chods. Let's say he didn’t disappoint, and he proved that sticking to what you know will catch you carp from anywhere.

Grab yourself a brew and watch Lewis put all the pieces together, hopefully you will pick up a few tips along the way so you can put more fish on the bank.
