In this video I will show you how to replace a starter solenoid to a 2003 Ford E350 7.3 Powerstroke Diesel Econoline.

This is the second part of my series to track down the problems related to the electrical short issues I was having. Having random lights come on the instrument cluster was stressful enough, but when the van started dying randomly at intersections, while rolling up windows, or turning on the A/C was too much to ignore. Since it's a diesel, it also requires you to "Wait to start" while the glow plugs warm up and allow the vehicle to start easier. this however would be reset several times and wouldn't give the vehicle the proper duration to achieve this.

I'm not too sure how common this particular problem is, but it was apparent that it was either not properly installed, or over time the connections came loose and started to cause shorting issues. You can see in the video how gummed up the wires and the solenoid were, and it was apparent there was an issue stemming from this.

It was tough to track down and was quite intimidating at first. Through several forums, it was said to replace the shift lever, instrument cluster, batteries, alternator, and others. I checked the batteries, and thankfully those both functioned normally and took full charges several times while addressing this issue.

In the end I got away with only replacing the shift lever and the starter solenoid for a total price of about $80, so it wasn't that bad outside of all the hours trying to diagnose the problem.

Hopefully this video can help you at least rule out if this is the issue with some of the weird things happening electronically in your van. Thanks so much for watching, and let me know in the comments if this solution helped you!
