For rust and patina effects, I use brown as well as certain shades of blue and green. I start my vintage painting with a combination of the acrylic colours burnt umber and bronze. I would like to show you how you can also create rust and patina effects using the wonderful squeegee technique. For abstract acrylic painting with the squeegee tool, I think about how I can create and apply layers of colour in an interesting way. For the vintage look, I make scratches with the edge of my tools in between different layers of colour. I paint in my own style with a smoothing trowel using the squeegee technique popularised by Gerhard Richter. In contrast to his large paintings and self-made large squeegee tools, my canvas is naturally small. In this video, I paint the abstract acrylic painting on a square canvas measuring 50 x 50 cm.
