Hello and welcome to first session of E3D Course.
Once you have installed AVEVA Everything3D, the related shortcut will be on your desktop.
Please Double click on the shortcut to open the form for selecting the project you want to work with.
By default, E3D contains a few sample projects you can browse through by clicking on this arrow. Each project has 3 characters in E3D that refers to the name of that particular project. For example, one of the sample projects is AMS, the description of project which is here: AVEVA Supplied Sample Marine Data.
The first rule of E3D is turn and maintain the caps lock key “on” during working with E3D. So, please turn on caps lock when you want to enter E3D.
Let’s select AMS project as a sample to illustrate how you can enter the design module. You can see that there are some users defined in this project. Each project has an ADMIN team that defines the users and the access limit for each one. Each user has specific username and password. We will discuss about the ADMIN module fully during part II of this Couse.
Please select “PIPE”, as a USER.
The Password of user “PIPE” of this project is “PIPE”. So it is easy to remember.
Please note that the “enter” key plays an important role in E3D. After you typing in each field, you should press enter to ensure that your data entry is correct. Otherwise, you will get error message.
For the next step, please type “PI” in MBD field and then accept E3D proposal as a “PIPEAFT” and press enter. ADMIN of project uses MDB or “Multi Data Base” to control the extent of access to the project data bases that will be discussed in the next sessions.
You can see that you have 4 choices to enter E3D design: Model, Draft, Isodraft and Spool. I am going to start this course with Model that occupies the workload of the project. After completion of design, we will continue with other modules.
Please enter Model and wait to start:
Welcome to model of E3D used for modeling of plant.
The main function of this module is the Modeling of plants with the actual sizes and dimensions of pieces of equipment, structures and piping components, providing correct assessment on appropriate access to equipment for operation and maintenance, optimum piping layout and checking clashes with structures, foundations and other obstacles. This feature is valuable to visualization of real plants and for reviews of pros and cons of layout, considering safety, operation, maintenance, price and ergonomics factors.
At the top, you can find your current situation: the project, MDB and the module you are working with.
At the left of it, there is a Drop-down Lists used for selecting the discipline for modelling:
By clicking on this list, you can find general, equipment, piping, HVAC, cable tray, structures, supports and design templates that will be used for modelling of related discipline objects.
Please select “general” to continue:
AVEVA E3D initiated a Graphical User Interface (GUI) same as the latest versions of AutoCAD. This feature makes E3D easier and more user friendly to work with than the previous versions.
You can choose the activity that you want to do here and find the related tabs here:
Home, view, tools, manage, design aids and general.
In each tab you can find the commands that are organized in logical groups.
In the Home Tab, you can find commands that are grouped together under “selection”: copy, copy & paste and paste. The next group is “create” that consists of copy offset, copy rotation and copy mirror.
This organization makes E3D more user friendly. For example, if you have an activity related to view, you should click on the “view” tab and then browse through the groups to find the related command. Following this instruction makes it easy to memorize the rout of command.
As an exercise, please review all the tabs of all disciplines.
My role in this course is teaching E3D in the simplest and most practical way as possible by using the real project examples. Therefore, I will not talk about all menus and commands like help of software. In some cases, I may use other ways such as shortcuts or commands instead of using menus because I find them more optimal.
This concluded our first session. In the next episode I will cover how to set a project that has been designed via PDMS 12.1 in E3D. you may have PDMS 12.1 project and you want to use it in this course.
