1)Bigger is not better - Avoid the 450 4T. 350 or smaller. Too much power and weight will make you work harder. How many GNCC guys ride a 450? Steward Baylor Jr. rides a 350 4T, and Kailub Russell got the Hole Shot and won a GNCC on a 250 4T. Joshua Toth XC2 - 5th Overall
2) Look for a woods bike. 18” Rear tire.
3) Brand isn’t a deal breaker important. KTM, Yamaha, Husqvarna, Beta are the biggies.
4) Don’t want a souped up bike.
5) Two Stroke Comparison
Pro - A lighter bike with a lower center of gravity.
Pro - A little lighter and lighter feel.
Pro - Typically less maintenance
Con - Will have to learn to use the clutch and keep RPMs up. This is why a lot of people like the 300.
Different models will vary on where the power is. Learn your bike.
6) 250/350 Four Stroke Comparison
Pro - Typically smoother power.
Pro - Typically can lug a little more on the hills.
Con - Can feel a little heavier.
7) Take your time buying a bike. If buying used, don’t feel rushed or pressured. Check over it thoroughly there are lots of guides out there. Ride through all the gears during your test ride. Check the oil after you ride it.
8) Get your suspension set for your weight and check the Sag and adjust your fork settings. Start at stock.
