Further, information about the light enters the pineal gland (pineal gland), which is located in the brain, and already the pineal gland, in turn, gives a signal to reduce the production of a hormone that is very important for humans - melatonin.
Melatonin regulates the frequency of sleep, slows down the aging process, strengthens the immune system, has an antioxidant effect, and ensures a person's adaptation when changing time zones.
70% of melatonin is produced during sleep, and the darker the room, the more of this important hormone the pineal gland produces.
That is why it is worth wearing a mask while sleeping. If you have blackout curtains and sleep in pitch darkness, then you don't need a mask.
But if a lantern is shining outside your window all night long or the curtains are not thick enough and let the light through, or you live in regions where there are white nights, then the mask is your irreplaceable friend!
In addition, studies have shown that a lack of melatonin leads to the development of cancer!
