Sand is great! Sand is the best way to improve your lawn at a reasonable price! Sand loosens the soil. Sand ensures that the soil is permeable to water. Sand keeps the top layer of the lawn dry. Sand repels moss. Sand evens out the unevenness of the ground. Sand offers microorganisms optimum conditions for microbial decomposition.
But beware! Sand can also compact the soil if it is too fine. Sand with a grain size of 0.4mm to 2mm is optimal for normal utility turf. Sand should have no clay content if possible.
Washed sand represents the optimum. Dried Qurazsand trickles in very well, but is very expensive.
