In this video, I showed how to use a hand crank sewing machine to sew the hem of my denim jeans. I also set up the machine: wind & insert the long bobbin into the shuttle and insert the shuttle into the machine, thread the upper thread, change the needle, and also mentioned how to lengthen and shorten stitches and how to increase and decrease thread tension.

If you own one, you can use it not just as a beautiful statement piece in your home but it is still a very useful sewing machine especially for sewing fabrics that some modern machines can’t handle - I have had some modern machines that can’t sew across the bulky seam lines of denim pants. I hope you try this out and save on your jeans alterations cost. The scrap fabric that I used in this video was used at the back of the presser foot to stabilise the foot when sewing bulky seams, acting as height compensation tool. This tool is available to buy, but a wad of fabric can do the trick.

Sorry about the bright light while I was sewing. I needed the light as I was sewing far from the machine because my camera was positioned between the machine and my head (It shakes when I bump my head to it ☺️) I only saw how bad the bright light was after I’ve finished sewing. Lessons learned… And my phone video camera was acting up too, and didn’t record the sound of the machine while I was sewing, sorry about that, too!

If you find my videos helpful, please give my videos a like and subscribe to my channel; leave a comment and share my videos with your sewing friends. I will be very grateful for your support and will be motivated to make more videos. Also, I will begin a new series called Learn To Sew. This new series aims to teach sewing through sewing tips & sewing projects. So stay tuned.

About me: I learned to sew from watching my neighbour, who was a tailor, sew. She often came to our house (to use my Mom's Singer treadle sewing machine) to sew some work that she brought home. I learned professional sewing techniques by just watching her sew quietly. And I learned to make patterns from my Mom's notes from her Dressmaking school days. I was 15 yo then.

I mentioned this to explain why I don't usually talk in my videos. I learned more from visuals than from verbal instructions. I hope that my viewers can also learn in the same way.

A big thank you for all your support!
