Civitavecchia, Naples, Pompeii - Stewy and Emery are in Civitavecchia, Italy today and embarking on the beautiful Norwegian PRIMA for 9 days sailing from Rome / Civitavecchia to Barcelona. We were in Rome for 2 nights before the PRIMA. Our ports-of-call are Naples, Cagliari- Sardinia, Livorno in Tuscany, Cannes, Marseille, Palma de Majorca, Ibiza and ending in Barcelona. As ‘we’ like to do, we take NCL Norwegian Cruise Lines shore excursions to see the many sites of interest in the various destinations. Joining us on this cruise, are Emery’s sister Robin and her husband Mark AND It’s Robin and Mark’s very first cruise to Italy, France and Spain.

Please join us in Civitavecchia, Pompeii and Naples. We do a Walking Tour travel vlog of Pompeii, eat Margherita Pizza and enjoy tableside Tiramisu. Today was a rainy, cold day, but that didn’t stop us from doing a Walking Tour of Pompeii, a Unesco World Heritage Site. What a remarkable place and a sobering experience. Pompeii was engulfed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD and it is the only active volcano on mainland Europe. Mount Vesuvius is one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world due to its proximity to the city of Naples which is Italy’s largest city.

After returning to Naples, we were hungry and wanted to have Margherita Pizza in the city where it was invented. As the home of pizza, Naples has its very own style of pizza, called Neapolitan Pizza. There are 3 ‘official variants’… Marinara, Margherita and Margherita Extra. Braving the driving rain we found the closest Italian restaurant to the ship, Castel Nuovo and ordered the Margherita Pizza, Delicious! We topped off our meal with tableside Tiramisu, what an authentic treat.

In the evening we had drinks in Observation Lounge deck 17, dinner in the Commodore Room, and a nightcap in the Belvedere Bar. Robin and Mark had their photos taken.
