Location: Shrine at Pepple Street, Ikeja, Lagos.
Date: Sunday, April 23, 1989.

A month-long celebration went on in Kalakuta and it culminated on April 23 with Fela's album launch celebrating his 3rd year out of prison, and the 12th year of his mother's death. What doesn't add up with Fela's calculation is the fact that it was only the 11th year of his mother, Funmilayo's death. She died in 1978.
NTA Channel 10 was present to capture the event.

This video was taken from Tanju Mutlu here:    • Fela Anikulapo Kuti  TV interview and...
It's in Black & White: the VHS magnetic tape has degraded but I was able to revive some colour, albeit rudimentary. I did not want to spend too much time rotoscoping.
The audio was mono, one-sided, but I was able to do some small noise reduction, and make it stereo.
Additionally, it was IMPORTANT that I added SUBTITLES as best as I could.
