80% of the time, when a punter has a bad punt it is most likely due to the drop of the ball⁣

And this is why I think the most important thing you can work on when it comes to punting is your drop⁣

Everyone wants to go out to the field and hit 5.0 balls, but no one wants to go out to the field and practice your drop 500+ times before even taking a full rep⁣

It’s the little things 🔑⁣

You want to get to a point where your drop is muscle memory. Thus, whether you are punting in rain, snow, sleet, high winds, or in very high pressure situations you are still able to perform at a high level because of the work done beforehand. ⁣

Here is a little bit of math for you: ⁣

✅ Repetition of Good Drops + Consistency = A Great Punter ✅ ⁣

Now with this being said, you want to make sure what you are practicing is correctly eliminating the bad habits and reinforcing the good ones. ⁣

👇🏻Here are somethings to keep in mind while focusing on your punt drop

→ Make sure the drop is flat. When you drop the ball it shouldn’t be rolling away from you. If you were to drop it on a line it should come right back to you or bounce straight up.⁣

→Turn the nose of the ball in. You want to make sure you are hitting the sweet spot of the ball. By turning the ball to either 11 o clock or 1 o clock (depending on what foot you kick with) it will be much easier to get a cleaner hit every single time⁣

→The ball should NOT BE MOVING. How the ball leaves your hand is how the ball should be on your foot at contact.⁣

→The ball should fall straight on the line. If the ball is falling inside or outside of the line you are dropping it on, your swing is going to be either too inside or outside. You want your swing to be straight, but it all starts with a straight drop falling in a straight line with your swing. USE THE LNE TO YOUR ADVANTAGE.⁣
