A brief video capturing GWR Castle class 5043 departing from Loughborough Station hauling the Vintage Trains excursion 'Cathedrals Express to Lincoln' between Birmingham New Street and Lincoln on Saturday 12th October 2024.
A chance to link iphone footage leaving the station (from limited space on the overbridge, in windy and showery conditions) with the much-more-relaxed scene on the floodplain near Stanford on Soar. The aim was to hear and film the train from a standing start - somewhat fast acceleration and more than a hint of assistance from the class 47 diesel. A memorable moment as I dreamt of days gone by, 60 years or more ago, when the a steam locomotive setting off was part of the landscape - most people absorbed the moment and it was part of everyday life! This was extra special, shared with no-one else at the time - but hopefully with many more people able to appreciate it here on video!
