We're in the Payette National Forest this Autumn season gettin in those beautiful Fall colors! The spectacular mountain town of McCall Idaho is a favorite of mine, but I've never really hiked the surrounding forest. So this year I grabbed my buddy Brett and we headed out for a week of backpacking through some smokey, but breathtaking scenery in the backwoods of Idaho.

Our first trip was the Boulder and Louie Lakes loop. Boulder Lake and Louie Lake are two popular day hikes in McCall. The less travelled route is a 6.8 mile loop combining the two spectacular lakes into one hike. But the real winner on our hike was the side trip to the more secluded Anderson Lake. It tacked on some extra miles and some serious elevation, but it was worth it. Get out there, and don't miss the Fall season!
