While everyone has heard of other sub fast food chains, such as Subway obviously, and then other ones like Quiznos and Jersey Mikes, many do not recall Blimpie. Blimpie was once one of the biggest sub sandwich chains in the whole US, with 2,000 locations at its peak. However, it was all downhill from there as Blimpie only continued to decline and was never able to compete with Subway, and to some extent Quiznos, in the battle of fast food sandwiches.

There aren't many Blimpies around anymore. I was able to find a Blimpie near me at a relatively commutable distance, in this case there are no Blimpies in Manhattan or Brooklyn, but there is a Blimpie in the Bronx and a Blimpie in Jersey City, so I headed to the one by Journal Square. I tried two items from the Blimpie menu, of course the Blimpie best and also one of their hot sandwiches.

We will see how the food holds up compared to other fast food sandwiches, and also offer some thoughts as to why Blimpie declined and what led to its fall from the top.
