This gorgeous and gloriously beautiful sounding 1970 Friedrich is an old friend of mine that originally was brought to me by the family of the famous jazz flautist/saxophonist Yusef Lateef. Apparently when living in France he decided to get a guitar and this was the one he bought. He had very good taste I can tell you. That being said I do not know of any recordings he may have done incorporating this instrument.

In the ouevre of Daniel Friederich, this one represents a very interesting point along the way. The bracing is moving in the direction of his later designs but it was constructed just before he began implementing his now famous double sides construction. So it retains the feel, weight and characteristic of his earlier spruce top guitars although sonically it also shares characteristics of his later work, the pianistic like evenness of response, sustain and ease of sound production. There are reasons for that under the hood as it were but overall this is an outstanding example of his work from that period, which to my own taste, is my favorite.

I set up the guitar for a low action, combined with a nice and straight neck with minimal relief, this is a very easy guitar to play. Generally speaking a nice compliant left hand feel is an attribute Friederich's tend to share but this one coupled with the lower action is even more than usual. This guitar loves to be played, is an ideal concert or recording instrument as you can hear here and has generations of life to go.

This instrument is currently for sale. Any inquires may be sent to me at [email protected] or through my website https://www.thespanishguitarworkshop.com.
