In the 1930s the US Department of Health funded a study at the Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee AL, the purpose of which was to analyze the effects of untreated syphilis on African American males for what was (originally) a period of six months. Doctors led these men to believe they were being treated for "Bad Blood" a catch-all term used by poor black southerners to describe a variety of ailments. However, not only were they not actually treating the men as they promised, but they were actually using them as unwitting participants in a series of twisted medical experiments. Join us today as we day a look at the history behind what became known as The Tuskegee Experiment.
