Roger Alexander Deakins CBE, BSC, ASC (born 24 May 1949) is an English cinematographer, best known for his work on the films of the Coen brothers, Sam Mendes and Denis Villeneuve. Deakins has been admitted to both the British Society of Cinematographers and to the American Society of Cinematographers. He is the recipient of five BAFTA Awards for Best Cinematography, and has had fifteen nominations and two wins for the Academy Award for Best Cinematography. His most well-known works include 1984, Barton Fink, The Shawshank Redemption, Fargo, Kundun, The Man Who Wasn't There, A Beautiful Mind, The Village, Jarhead, Revolutionary Road, No Country for Old Men, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Prisoners, Skyfall, Sicario, Blade Runner 2049, and 1917, the last two of which earned him the Academy Awards.
