Talking about the length of time taken by the planets in each sign, Om Swami says that Shukra stays in one rashi(sign) for thirty days. Surya(sun) stays for a month. Mangal(Mars) for two months, but when it is vakri( opposite way)it can stay in a sign for seven months too. Guru stays in a sign for twelve months. Shani stays in a rashi(sign) for two and a half years, but if it becomes vakri then it can take longer. Shani takes about twenty-nine to thirty years to go through all the zodiac signs, and Chandra(moon) completes it in just thirty days. Rahu and Ketu stay in a sign for one and a half years and they always are vakri.
Om Swami says that when we look at the panchang(almanac)we learn that the Chandra (moon)determines the thithi - like amavasya, poornima or any other day. Surya (sun) when it leaves a sign and enters another one for example when Sun enters Makar(Capricorn) it is Makarshankranthi. It takes Sun one month to travel from one sign to another. Brihaspati(guru) when it goes from one sign to another, a new year is born, for it takes twelve months for it to go from one sign to another.
In the seven and a half years of Shani, the first two and a half years are spent by it on the sign before one’s birth sign, then the next two and a half years it stays in the birth sign, and the next two and a half on the sign after the birth sign. This is just the movement of Shani in one’s birth chart and it does not mean that Shani is going to bring problems, diseases etc. Om Swami says that the planets have influence but they do not determine everything. With every prediction, there are many to nullify it and it depends on how and in what way a person ponders about the predictions and reacts to it. The great saints like Buddha and Guru Nanak have always said that one should not believe in horoscopes. They were totally against it because anything that makes a person weak should not be adopted rather something that strengthens a person should be.
Om Swami says that the main purpose of this retreat was to share this, as, once a person understood this then he or she will not be frightened and they can further help other people to understand all this.
