The Mets kick off their 2006 season with on a chilly afternoon at Shea before a packed house of 54,371. Gary Cohen and Keith Hernandez on the call for the first Mets regular-season broadcast on SNY. Gary Carter catches the ceremonial first pitch thrown by Jesse Orosco commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Mets 1986 Championship season.

David Wright jump-starts his season with a solo homerun and Tom Glavine goes 6 full innings surrendering just one run. Billy Wagner gets the save behind stellar defense from Carlos Beltran to secure the first win of the year.
