SLICING STATIC (2004)
A 60-minute site-specific presentation that examines the conscious/ unconscious refusal to free oneself from outdated, dysfunctional rules set by the individual and society. With the audience seated on three sides in unusual configurations, the audience-performer divide is collapsed as dancers move beyond the fourth wall, at times even under the risers, in an innovative use of theater space.
With a beautifully elastic score by Mitchell Akiyama that moves from electronica to urban jungle to jazz-infused rhythms, and an exquisite architectural lighting design by Yan Lee Chan, Slicing Static engaged audiences through riveting movement and non-linear character development.
