In today’s class, I will be teaching you a Namashkar. The Namashkar is a salutation that we do at the beginning and ending of every dance session. Whether it be your practice, performance or personal dance time the Namashkar is what opens and closes your personal space. Growing up we were taught a structured outline of the Namashkar.

As a teacher, when my students begin to evolve and grow into individual artists, I encourage them to make the Namashkar their own. A tool to clear their minds before dancing, a tool to help them center themselves or to simply pour gratitude into their practice and for themselves. There are many many versions of the Namashkar, if this resonates with you feel free to welcome it into your practice.

Please note there are many different versions of Namashkar, this version has been passed down to me by my guru's from their guru's & from me to you.

What you need:
Water, comfortable clothing to dance, clear space for you to dance.

Reshmi is an award winning Kathak dancer, choreographer & cultural producer. Over the course of Reshmi’s career, her goal has always been to provide access to the tools dancers need to grow as artists. After the loss of her her mother Deviekha Chetram, her first Guru, to Alzheimer’s at a young age of 63 years old Reshmi wanted to find a way to honor her mother’s love, passion and commitment to Kathak and dance. Not just through a social media post or memorial but every day in her life. Reshmi will be releasing 1 technique class every month on her Youtube Channel. By offering free programming, Reshmi can pass on the knowledge, guidance and traditions she received from her guru’s to the next generation and to anyone who may find it to be useful.
