"Platero y yo" is a suite in eight movements, written in 1968 by Eduardo Sáinz de la Maza. My dear teacher and mentor Gunnar Lif (born 1932) studied with Sáinz de la Maza in Barcelona between 1958-1965 and they bacame very close. Gunnar Lif was the first guitarist to perform and record the suite and he worked closely with the composer. When I studied this work with Lif, he gave me his score that also included a few additional notes, written in pencil by Sáinz de la Maza himself. I have included these additions in this recordning.
Of course I dedicate this film to my dear teacher and close friend Gunnar Lif, whose LP with this music is still my favorite disc.
