Our power was out, so we decided to go for a beach walk the day after Hurricane Ian had departed our area. Hurricane Ian was a long storm, that dumped a lot of water, and left a trail of destruction and devastation in it's wake. While Ian was still moving up the coast, it was surreal to be walking on the glassy shores, taking in serene blue skies almost as if nothing out of the ordinary had occurred.

The walk begins at the 27th Avenue Beach Front Park. Normally there is driving and parking on the beach here, but all of the beaches were of course closed due to the storm and only open to pedestrians. Many people were out enjoying the fresh breezy air and soaking up the last rays of day. There were even some surfers and volley ball players. Some debris washed up on the sand, but mostly just sea grass. There was some erosion to the dunes, and no evidence of any turtle nests that might have been there. Sadly, we did read that about 40 turtle nests were lost due to the hurricane. The walk is 18 minutes heading North then we then turn around and head back. The video concludes with several minutes of looking out onto the ocean, taking in the waves, the wind, and appreciating nature.

Many people lost their homes in Volusia County. It was shocking and sad to see some of the flooding. Many people lost everything and are still trying to recover and find temporary homes.

34:15 The Breakers Restaurant is seen at the end of this video. This famous restaurant and bar painted pink, has a laid back vibe with an amazing view of the ocean.
