I arranged 'Auld lang syne' for a cappella SATB chorus at the suggestion of my wife, Laura; the piece is a tender setting of the well-known Scottish tune, with lyrics by Robbie Burns. The song is most often heard on New Year’s Eve, but is quite appropriate at many other occasions. The lyrics are a reminiscence of days gone by spent with a close friend or lover, and are also a celebration, a suggestion, to lift a glass to that friendship. In this rendition, each vocal section has an opportunity to sing the tune; it also features a soprano soloist.

My sincere thanks to the wonderful singers who participated in this virtual choir; they are all alumni of the TCU Concert Chorale.
______
Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and days o' lang syne!

For auld lang syne, my Dear, for auld lang syne,
we'll tak' a cup o' kindness yet, for auld lang syne.

And surely ye'll be your pint stowp, and surely I'll be mine;
And we'll tak' a cup o' kindness yet, for auld lang syne.

We twa ha'e run about the braes, and pu't the gowans fine;
But we've wander'd mony a weary foot, sin' auld lang syne.

And there's a hand, my trusty fiere, and gi'es a hand o' thine;
And we'll tak' a right gude-willie waught, for auld lang syne.

--Robert Burns
