Mandatory Biodiversity Net Gain requires development to demonstrate a minimum 10% increase in ‘habitat units’, as measured by the statutory Biodiversity Metric.

In this webinar, we will present the policy of mandatory Biodiversity Net Gain, and the context of mandatory Biodiversity Net Gain and the planning system.

Mitigation and compensation actions, such as nutrient mitigation or measures for protected species or sites, can count in part towards a developer’s Biodiversity Net Gain. At least 10% of the developer’s biodiversity units must come from additional activities other than mitigation and compensation. This applies whether on-site or off-site.
